Between THE CHOSEN ONE and HTP he also made a short film on tourism for MTDC that fetched him the National Award for Best Film on Tourism - COLOURS OF KONKAN aka LOST AND FOUND. This partnership collaborated subsequently on Hasee Toh Phasee. His first foray into short feature writing was when he wrote THE CHOSEN ONE for STAR One directed by Vinil Matthew. Alongwith a couple of his FTII classmates he formed the production company Tailormade Films upon graduation which was involved in a whole bunch of promotional films, audio visuals and ad films. Nikhil bumps into Meeta on the occasion of her sister Deekshas wedding. During the time he decided he wanted to do a course in film making and joined the Film and Television Institute of India specialising in Editing. The film is about the relationship between the quirky, rebellious Meeta (Parineeti Chopra) and the mischievous Nikhil (Sidharth Malhotra) struggling with their respective families to fit in. He was also the assistant director for a few episodes.

He began his career as a script writer for the television series Aahat for SONY TV. All through engineering he was busy writing, directing and acting in plays including winning the prestigious Purushottam Karandak. His directorial debut feature film Hunterrr was released in 2015.Kulkarni was born and raised in Mumbai and trained as a petrochemical engineer at Pune University(MIT Kothrud). Harshavardhan Kulkarni is an Indian film writer and director. During the course of Meeta's stay at Nikhil's house, they come In an attempt to please Karishma he decides to keep Meeta in the flat above his own house, with his crazy extended family. Nikhil is re-introduced to Meeta by Karishma and is instructed to put her up in a hotel. On the day of his engagement, Nikhil promises Karishma that he will prove himself to be worthy of her within the next seven days. Karishma's wealthy father, Devesh Solanki, does not approve of Nikhil as he finds him to be a lackadaisical young man. The film jumps to the eve of Nikhil and Karishma's engagement. He falls in love with Meeta's sister Karishma on the same day. Nikhil bumps into Meeta on the occasion of her sister Deeksha's wedding while Meeta is on the run. Besides her father who dotes on her, she also feels the need for a companion like Nikhil who can put her topsy-turvy life into perspective.Synopsis: Spread across Mumbai over a decade, the film is about the relationship between the quirky, rebellious Meeta (Parineeti Chopra) and the mischievous Nikhil (Sidharth Malhotra) struggling with their respective families to fit in. It is only when the prodigal returns, does she realise that there’s an emotional void in her life.

And, Meeta herself has been missing from the family scene for seven long years chasing her professional dream. Ok, so why aren’t these two together in the first place? Is it only because they are poles apart as people? No, it’s because Nikhil is engaged to be married to Meeta’s elder sister Karishma. But there’s an under-current in their equation that keeps the audience hoping they that they will seek each other out. Naturally Nikhil and Meeta’s ideologies don’t match.
Meeta(Parineeti Chopra) is a non-conformist she’s a go-getter in her personal and professional space. Nikhil(Sidharth Malhotra) is an optimist, who believes once committed, there’s no straying. Debutant director Vinil Mathew’s straight-forward approach is smart and fresh his characters are lovable. Review: Hasee Toh Phasee is for the romantics who like their martinis stirred not shaken. Wait, they’re not the ones in a relationship. Story: Straight-forward boy and eccentric girl are drawn to each other.
